Saint Lucia National Workshop

On 24-26 May 2017, UNCTAD delivered a national capacity building workshop in St. Lucia on “Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for Coastal Transport Infrastructure in the Caribbean”

Key Issues

The St. Lucia workshop brought together a range of relevant national stakeholders including from the national airport and seaport authority (i.e. Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority – SLASPA) as well as policy makers (e.g. Department of Sustainable Development etc.) and representatives of national authorities (e.g. Saint Lucia Meteorological Services etc.). Participants discussed the findings of the case-study of St. Lucia, including the assessment of beach erosion in Saint Lucia with significant impacts on tourism well as the methodology for assessing climate-related impacts and adaptation options. The workshop also provided an opportunity to gather feedback and further input by national stakeholders.

“This was a very timely and well received workshop. Aspects I liked best: adaptation options and issues arising for adaptation; identifying operational thresholds for vulnerability assessments”
Saint Lucia Meteorological Services
